World AIDS Day Is Today

December 1 is World AIDS Day, a tradition started in 1988 to increase awareness of HIV and AIDS. The stats on AIDS are still very scary: According to UNAIDS, 33.4 million people are living with HIV worldwide, and 2.7 million new cases were diagnosed in 2008. But there is hope too. A November 2009 WHO/UNAIDS study shows that new HIV infections have been reduced by 17% over the past eight years, pointing to the effectiveness of prevention programs.Help protect yourself from HIV by knowing these facts, from the NWHRC, about how the disease is transmitted:
